CAS Trip to Prague 2015

Our CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) trip in September sent grades 11 and 12 of the IB Diploma Programme with teachers V. Breckler and B. Bottyan to the old city of Prague. The 5 day program, custom-made for ISM by ‘CAS Trips Prague’, offered a great variety of experiences introducing and reinforcing the elements of the CAS philosophy at the core of the IB.

Starting with the accommodations, bringing the students in contact with young people from all over the world, we were also offered completely different international culinary experiences. We got to know Prague at night, through our own research and another tour leading to the castle or tracing Franz Kafka’s life in the city, respectively.

Our activities ranged from physical endeavors like bob-sledding and paintballing to a theater workshop. One day was scheduled to cook for the homeless, meet them at the food distribution point and getting a personal tour from a former homeless person, educating us about homelessness and drug abuse.

Reflecting on our experiences through pictures, writing and a short film was also an integral part of the experience. Reliving the trip through our picture reflection on a school bulletin board showed us again the positive impact on the group, the rich experiences and deeper understanding of the CAS philosophy.
